Bordeaux, 2006
We have been planning our trip to France since last summer. In
January we make our plane reservations. Meanwhile,
Françoise, who lives in Grenoble with her family, rapidly begins phoning
her sister, aunts and parents to plan an itinerary. The time seems to go
by slowly, then suddenly, the day approaches!
We leave for Paris on April 28, 2006. The following
morning we board the TGV train to Libourne. After three comfortable
hours, we arrive in Libourne by train at 10:30 AM on April 30.
Waiting at the train station are most of the family. They have a big
welcome sign! Some of them are crying. We are amazed at so many people
coming to greet us! They take us from the station to Nicole &
Christian's home in St. Quentin de Baron where we deposit our suitcases
and get to know each other a little. This is where we will be staying
while in Bordeaux.

Early the next morning, we
leave for a series of events. Our first stop is the
cemetery, where Antoinette and Gaspard are buried. Nicole
has prepared a special ceremony. Melanie places the Polish
flag with the flowers at the foot of the tomb. Afterwards,
we drive to the Church where all of Gaspard's children were
married. |

We now go to the first home
of Gaspard & Antoinette, now owned by a vintner. We tour the
house, the yard, then go down the street to the vineyard,
where we enter the winery for a tour, and sample some wines. |
